Caring for Columbia is the largest student-run day of service at Mizzou. Each spring, students, faculty and staff from all over campus unite to honor the Columbia community in a day of volunteering, to say “Thank You” for their continued support throughout the years. More than 1,200 students serve at 60-plus sites performing tasks that include working with animals, packing backpacks for children, painting and park clean efforts.
The Office of Student Engagement in the Center for Student Involvement (2500 MU Student Center) provides involvement opportunities, leadership training and volunteer experiences with an emphasis on developing transferable skills for future employment. Programs include the Women’s Leadership Conference, Emerging Leaders, Mizzou Alternative Breaks and Caring for Columbia. The office advises student government and is the central campus resource for recognized student organizations.
Paws for a Cause is a student-led service program that provides opportunities for students to participate in different service projects on a regular basis throughout the year. For more information on Paws for a Cause one-time service opportunities or one-credit course, please email email@example.com.
STRIPES (Supportive Tigers Riding in Pursuit of Ensuring Safety) is a student-run program that offers safe, free, confidential rides home to Mizzou students and their guests Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights during fall and spring semesters. Whether a student is working late, on a bad date, or is unable to safely operate a motor vehicle, STRIPES is available, free of charge. Volunteers work five nights a semester; free food and vehicles are provided.
Tiger Pantry strives to provide food assistance for those in need within the University of Missouri community. We hope to change the perception of hunger on campus and to offer resources to students, faculty and staff so that they may focus on the experiences uniquely available at Mizzou.
Truman’s Closet offers business attire rentals free of charge for Mizzou students, faculty and staff. Donations can be dropped off at the Center for Student Involvement at the MU Student Center or Truman’s Closet during operational hours. Team members are also available to pick up donations.
