Tigers for a Cause is a student-led service program that provides opportunities for students to participate in different service projects on a regular basis throughout the year. We aim to provide a variety of opportunities each semester that meet different needs in the community.

One-Time Service Opportunities

Tigers for a Cause has pre-arranged service opportunities throughout the semester led by student leaders. Students can RSVP through OrgSync to join a group of fellow students in serving a local community partner. Past one-time service opportunities have included packaging and processing food for needy families at the Food Bank, hosting a bingo night at Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital, serving meals and providing games at Columbia Healthcare Center, caring for needy animals at Central Missouri Humane Society, facilitating after school activities and tutoring for children at the Moving Ahead Program, and a variety of environmental projects. Transportation is provided to and from all service events off-campus. To sign-up for a Paws for a Cause service event, RSVP on OrgSync.

Semester-Based Service Opportunity

Tigers for a Cause also has a for-credit course option. Students commit 30 hours a semester to volunteering as part of a one-credit service learning course. The course gives students the flexibility to create their own volunteer schedules, choose from a variety of different service focuses, and network with local community partners. This course does not meet on a regular basis, but does require attending two mandatory orientation sessions, a mid-semester reflection session, and a final reflection session. There are multiple sessions to choose from to accommodate student schedules.

Enrolled students will be able to choose their preferred volunteer location from around 12-15 options, including education, animals, youth development, health services, the environment, and more.
